March is Women's History Month. And while here on SYFY FANGRRLS we celebrate women's achievements throughout the year, we're going above and beyond for the upcoming month with a limited podcast series called Forgotten Women of Genre. Today's episode is a part of our weekly Strong Female Characters joint. Cher, Preeti and Courtney get pulled back in by the Ghostbusters, say thank god for Emma Thompson, and celebrate today's Forgotten Woman of Genre: Helen Gibson.

Remember the Amazons kicking ass in 2017’s Wonder Woman, or Zoe Bell hanging on the hood of a car as it speeds down the road in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof? These women have the iconic Helen Gibson to thank. Gibson was one of America’s first stunt women back in the early 1900’s. She starred in hundreds of films, many of them in the silent era, and did all of her own death defying stunts—including riding a motorcycle into a moving train, saving damsels in distress, and jumping off bridges. The list goes on. Helen Gibson paved the way for the stunt women in some of our favorite movies. So on today’s episode of Forgotten Women of Genre, we want to cheer on Helen Gibson, a heroine of her time!

Science fiction, fantasy, and all associated genres have finally evolved from a niche interest into a mainstream staple. But the women who have been instrumental in creating and shaping the nerdverse have largely gone unrecognized. Until today. Forgotten Women of Genre tells the stories of the women who helped some of the most famous fantasy worlds become a reality.
