We know Disney is looking for some young talent to anchor the new trilogy of Star Wars films, and it sounds like they might be looking very close to home for the next hero of a galaxy far, far away.
In a wide-ranging interview with MTV, Zac Efron (That Awkward Moment, 17 Again) let slip that he is a big Star Wars fan and has actually had a meeting about the upcoming sequels. Efron, of course, skyrocketed to fame after his appearance in Disneyâs hit High School Musical franchise. Hmm. Well, this is interesting.
Hereâs the choice excerpt:
âYeah, I just went and met with them. So I don't know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but⦠who knows?"
This, of course, doesnât mean Efron is on the short list or is legitimately in the running, but it does confirm he has at least taken a meeting. Considering his movie-star good looks and appeal to young ladies, youâd have to think Efron is in talks about the âLuke Skywalker-esqueâ hero role in the franchise.
Though it might sound like a terrible idea off the bat, Efron has come a long way since his High School Musical days, and is actually starting to put out some halfway-decent movies. He also has a relationship with Disney and is a proven commodity for the Mouse House. But the guy would probably bring a stigma when it comes to sci-fi fans, so thatâs the tricky side.
What do you think? Could Zac Efron be the new hero of the Rebels?
