In the wake of The Martian’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Friday, 20th Century Fox has released almost 10 minutes of awesome B-roll footage from Ridley Scott’s new space epic.
The video features lots of green-screen and wire-work action (and potato growing!), as well as a cool behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming movie based on Andy Weir’s best-selling novel. The footage boasts stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, Mackenzie Davis, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie and Sean Bean. Check it out:
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring "the Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return.
Following the movie's premiere, a bunch of folks took to Twitter in order to praise Ridley Scott’s new movie (it currently has a 95% fresh rating over at Rotten Tomatoes), even calling the Matt Damon-starrer the Alien and Blade Runner director's best film, at least this decade. You can have a look at the positive buzz for the movie here.
The Martian will open in movie theaters on Oct. 2.
