Big news has been coming out of this year's Winter TCA (Television Critics Association) Press Tour. It's when journalists get a first look at the networks' upcoming slate. Fox had one of the most exciting panels thanks to Sleepy Hollow, the revived 24 and the comic adaptation Gotham.

Gotham is the pilot we've all been hearing about. It will center on a young Jim Gordon and Bruce Wayne prior to becoming Batman. But it's not just an origin story about them; Gotham will also tackle some of Batman's greatest villains. So, who can we expect to make an appearance? Fox president Kevin Reilly said, “This is all of the classic Batman characters with a young Bruce Wayne, the Penguin, the Riddler [and] how they came to be. ... What events led up to [someone] becoming Catwoman ... all with Gotham teetering on the edge.”

Most live-action DC shows have steered clear of Batman's origin. But Gotham has free rein with the character. The series will follow Bruce from the age of 12 to however old he'll be in the series finale. At that time, an adult Bruce will finally put on his cape. Sound familiar? It's definitely giving us Smallville vibes. Reilly said he's read the script and "It’s really good. It’s going to be this operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality.”

We don't know about you, but we're excited about this. It sounds like Fox is fully embracing the Batman canon. Usually there's concern about possible conflict between TV and film adaptations. But it looks like they're targeting major characters. Almost everyone is fair game.

Are you excited about Fox's Gotham?
