It’s taken almost 20 years, but fan favorite The Simpsons character Frank Grimes is finally getting his revenge this Sunday.
To help build some buzz for "Treehouse of Horror XXVI,” Fox has released the intro couch gag for the latest Halloween episode. Over the years, The Simpsons has gotten more and more ambitious and weird with the Halloween episodes, and this latest clip is no different. Framed in a freaky retro throwback style, the gag resurrects the character Frank Grimes from the 1997 episode “Homer’s Enemy.”
Weirdly enough, the episode is one of the most controversial of the show’s run, featuring a character (Grimes) who is essentially a real-world surrogate for the audience. Grimes sadly meets his maker in the episode and dies with a deep hatred of Homer. Well, this Halloween he’s finally coming back to finish off his “enemy.”
Also of note: If the art style looks familiar, there's a good reason — the Simpsons team tapped Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi to bring his unique style of weird to this one, and it shows. It marks the second time he's contributed a gag to the long-running Fox series.
