Jeff Pinkner, executive producer of Fox's sci-fi series Fringe, explains the shocking final image from last night's season finale on, which you can view after the jump. (Spoiler ahead!)

In the last scene of the episode, "There's More Than One of Everything," Olivia (Anna Torv) finds herself in an alternate reality—one in which John F. Kennedy is still alive and the White House has been rebuilt.

Most shocking, it is revealed that the office of William Bell (Leonard Nimoy), the founder of Massive Dynamics, is in one of the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York.

Pinkner defends the use of the sensitive image in a video interview on Fringe will return for a second season in the fall.
