The Futurama gang returns in first look at their Simpsons crossover

It's been a year since Futurama aired its second series finale, and some of us still aren't over the loss of the always smart sci-fi comedy that poked as much fun at the present as it did at the future. Many fans are still holding out hope for yet another revival of the series, and while that may happen someday, for now we'll have to settle for Fry, Bender, Leela and company making an appearance on creator Matt Groening's other, more successful cartoon: The Simpsons

America's favorite cartoon family returns for their 26th season this fall, and in addition to a crossover with fellow FOX hit Family Guy, the show's also planning to meet up with the Futurama cast in a time-traveling adventure called, appropriately, "Simpsorama."

“They were going off the air, so I thought people would really love it if we had one more chance to see those characters,” Simpsons executive producer Al Jean said. “We’re always looking for things that are compatible with us, and I thought, ‘Well, what’s more compatible?’ We do a joke, actually, about how similar Bender and Homer look. Like, they just erased Homer’s hair.”

So, how do all these characters meet across time? Apparently, it all begins when Bart blows his nose with a sandwich, then puts that sandwich in a time capsule. Over the centuries, that sandwich merges with other nasty items in the capsule to create a disgusting threat to the future. Bender, never much for diplomacy, decides that the best way to prevent this future gross-out from ever happening is to go back in time and kill Bart, and so the two worlds collide. Sadly, we don't have any footage from the episode yet, but we do have the first image, which features Bender going full Kill All Humans on Homer. Check it out:

"Simpsorama" is scheduled to air Nov. 9 on FOX.
