The only thing that could make this any cuter would be if we found out that George R.R. Martin took the photo himself.
In an obvious break from the gravity that pervades Game of Thrones’ every frame, Emilia Clarke posted a photo to her Instagram account over the weekend that showed her reunited, here in the real world, with Jason Momoa, her former GoT onscreen flame.
Game of Thrones fans will be the first to note that this is one reunion that’s unlikely to be duplicated in any future scenario within the HBO series — for reasons we won’t spoil here. All we’ll say is that Momoa’s Khal Drogo and Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen…well, they’re not a GoT couple anymore.
Back in this universe, Momoa just lit up the celebrity press world by marrying Lisa Bonet (that’s Denise Huxtable, if you’re a child of the ‘80s) in a clandestine at-home ceremony several weeks ago in Topanga, California.
Clarke, meanwhile, used her Instagram moment with Momoa to splash a little insight into the camaraderie that binds the GoT cast — including alumni who are no longer on the show — when they’re not in character, plotting and scheming. “When life is so good that your sun and stars is in your city...you lose your eyes and gain 5 grins,” Clarke gushed.
Momoa, who revived Arnold Shwarzenegger’s original title character in a star-crossed 2011 reboot of Conan the Barbarian, has moved on from GoT, committing to a succession of appearances as Aquaman within the DC Extended Universe. The character turned up last year in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will splash into theaters again in the Zack Snyder-directed Justice League, which opens nationwide on November 17.
Momoa’s also headlining DC’s upcoming Aquaman feature film, which is slated for a December 2018 release.
