Game of Thrones has nabbed two acclaimed actors for its upcoming sixth season. Legendary Swedish actor Max von Sydow and Deadwood’s Ian McShane have joined the cast of HBO’s hit fantasy series.

Von Sydow has an impressive career that spans dozens upon dozens of TV appearances, movies and voice acting gigs (he has a whopping 153 acting credits to his name on IMDb), but geeks everywhere will recognize him from such movies as The Exorcist, Judge Dredd and Minority Report. The actor is also set to appear in a little sci-fi movie no one's heard of called Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

So, what’s the role the actor is up for? Well, as it so happens, it’s someone we’ve already met on the show.

In a bit of recasting, von Sydow has reportedly signed on to play the key role of the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran Stark’s (Isaac Hempstead Wright) mystical tutor. The character was briefly seen in the flesh for the first time in the Game of Thrones Season 4 finale, but was then portrayed by actor Struan Rodger. THAT GUY THERE:

Deadwood’s own Al Swearengen, actor Ian McShane, has joined the cast in a role that's being kept under wraps by the Game of Thrones powers-that-be. However, rumors are floating around that the veteran actor could be playing Sam’s (John Bradley) infamous dad, Ser Randyll Tarly.

Most of you will already know the actor not only for his acclaimed role on HBO’s Deadwood, but also from The Pillars of the Earth and American Horror Story. McShane's recent big-screen gigs included Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Hercules and John Wick.

It’s reported that both actors are not expected to have a lot of screen time in the upcoming season, but their roles are said to be crucial to the series.

Are you excited about the casting of Max von Sydow and Ian McShane on Season 6 of Game of Thrones? Who do you guys think McShane could be playing?
