Thrones issues unique casting call for upcoming massacre scene

With a bloody, pivotal scene coming down the pike, the producers behind HBO's Game of Thrones have put out one of the most unique casting calls in history to get the Red Wedding just right. Minor spoilers ahead!

The NY Post reports that the series is searching for several amputees that can be featured in scenes set at the Red Wedding, which is one of the bloodiest turning points in George R.R. Martin's entire run of A Song of Ice and Fire as featured in A Storm of Swords.

Thousands die, and several lose limbs in the massacre. To make sure the scene is as authentic as possible, the studio is on the hunt for some actors with very specific physical traits for the event:

"You must be OK and comfortable with filming a scene within the context of a battle where your leg has been injured."

"Seeking MALE only cellists."

"Ideally men with medieval or period faces (i.e. long hair & beard) but not essential."

Considering how touchy a subject this could be, the studio was also thoughtful enough to add a disclaimer:
"Prosthetic makeup will be applied as though your leg has newly been severed. We understand that this is not for everyone, so please only apply if you are happy to participate."
From an artistic perspective, you have to give the Thrones team props for taking every possible step to make this series as grounded and realistic as possible.

The third season is set to debut in March 2013.

What do you think of the casting call? Authentic, or a bit too far?
