If you think the name Hitman: Agent 47 may be familiar, perhaps it's because you've seen the 2007 movie Hitman, a somewhat decent film that didn't make much of a splash. Or perhaps it's because you've played one of the Hitman videogames from Io-Interactive. But wait—this means Agent 47 is a reboot of a videogame movie. Augh! Hide the children!
But if you see the trailer below, not to mention the nifty poster, you'll see that the movie won't fuse your neurons after all. In fact, considering it co-stars Zacharay Quinto and Ciaran Hinds, it looks intriguing.
Here we meet Agent 47, a genetically engineered assassin. Only unlike the game, where Agent 47 is the protagonist, it seems as if Agent 47 is styled as the bad guy. And he's targeting a young woman. (Fear not, Hitman fans. They team up eventually.)
Hitman is a stealth-em-up series, which means you can play it guns blazing, but if you do, you'll get spanked. No, the best way to play Hitman is to move slowly, carefully, and make as little impact on the people around you as possible. One of the reasons I enjoyed Hitman: Absolution is that forced me to think my way through a problem. I hadn't expected it to be so smart.
Although this looks like a good trailer, it's as unsubtle as any other recent action film. This means we probably won't get to see Agent 47 (Rupert Friend) take out his enemies with fugu fish. Alas.
Here's hoping the movie is as surprisingly intelligent as the games.
