You know you've done a good job directing a Star Wars movie when no less than the creator of that whole universe pays you a compliment. George Lucas thought Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi was "beautifully made," his rep says, after the filmmaker saw a recent screening of the film, per The Hollywood Reporter

"Speaking with director Rian Johnson after viewing was complimentary," Connie Wethington, Lucas' rep, told the outlet.

Lucas hasn't been particularly involved with the franchise since selling Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for $4.05 billion. Lucas said he had ideas for movies beyond Return of the Jedi, but Disney wanted to "do its own thing." However, he has popped up now and again to comment on the films being made. In 2015, he gave J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens his stamp of approval

“I think the fans are going to love it,” he said. “It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”

The news that Lucas liked The Last Jedi is another notch in the movie's belt, which has been getting rave reviews after its premiere in Los Angeles last weekend. It also currently holds a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie opens everywhere on Friday.

A rep for Lucas did not immediately respond to SYFY WIRE's request for comment.
