Did you ever wonder how in the Seven Kingdoms George R.R. Martin came up with the stories and the world of A Song of Ice and Fire? Well, wonder no more, as you can now watch Martin himself explain how it all came about.

In a lengthy and interesting video interview, Martin discusses his early life, his love of sci-fi, fantasy and horror books and his passion for Marvel Comics, which led, down the road, to some Hollywood work. (Martin honed his scriptwriting skills on The Twilight Zone and Beauty and the Beast!)

However, and that's the most interesting tidbit, Martin talks about how, back in 1991, he suddenly got this idea of a scene in his head with some wolf pups by their dead mother found by "medieval type people" riding through the "summer snows."

Those summer snows are something Martin felt was very important to him, in the context of the story—revealing that it took him only three days to write that famous chapter.

Which, in turn, gave birth to the wonderful world of Warcraft Game of Thrones
