"Is he a hero? Is he a villain? He's...complicated," says all-star writer Dan Slott in Marvel's new Fantastic Four preview below.

We've heard some exciting things about the long-awaited return of the first family of Marvel Comics, but today we are hearing some equally exciting things about how the new Fantastic Four series will deal with the squad's persistent nemesis (and constant movie misfire), Victor Von Doom

Fantastic Four #1 will hit the shelves this Wednesday, Aug. 8 — exactly 57 years to the day that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby first introduced the world to Reed Richard, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm in 1961's The Fantastic Four #1. Their return will contain an all new story from creators Dan Slott and Sara Pichelli, which will include a downright electric appearance from the talented Doctor Doom.

Where exactly have Reed and Sue been all this time? What have Ben and Johnny been up to? Most important of all, what nefarious (or non-nefarious) plans does Doctor Doom have for the team? Possibly the most exciting part of the trailer is the promise of a new look at this stalwart villain. He could be good, he could be bad, but he'll definitely be interesting. A "complicated" Doom sounds pretty fantastic to us.

With Slott promising that the new series will "change the fabric of the team" as well as the announcement of variant covers from the great Walt Simonson, the hype has been building for this royal foursome's return for quite some time. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. Will the team be ready for the challenges ahead? Ready or not, we know they'll be together. As Slott says in the video, "If there's one thing we know about the Fantastic Four, it's that two plus two equals four... that's at the heart of it. They all have to be there together."

Two plus two equals four — times that by two and you have eight, which is the day in August that the book will finally come out. Will you be picking it up, or are things a little more complicated for you? FLAME ON in the comments!
