This fall, the Thirteenth Doctor is rolling out her own comic book series, and she'll be doing it in style with a baker's dozen of variant covers.
Titan Comics first announced the arrival of Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor — an ongoing series based on the adventures of the title character set to be played on television very soon by Jodie Whittaker — back in February, and ever since then they've been slowly revealing to fans just how big the comic launch will be. Things kicked off with the news that the series will feature an all-female creative team in the spirit of the franchise's first female star, then we got the news that the series proper would be preceded by a special, massive zero issue that will allow the Doctor to relive all of her past lives through some unseen stories.
Now, while we still don't know the exact release date for The Thirteenth Doctor #1, we do know that it'll be coming with a lot of variant covers: 13, to be exact.
Titan revealed its plans to roll out the variant covers with the first-issue launch in a press release Monday. They will include new art by Thirteenth Doctor series artist Rachael Stott, along with other acclaimed pencillers including Babs Tarr (Batgirl), Katie Cook (Adventure Time), Sanya Anwar (Assassin's Creed), Alice X. Zhang (Doctor Who), and more. It's all part of the plan to offer up "mind-blowing challenges" and "dynamic stories" for the Doctor's "most thrilling incarnation yet."
“I love the hope of Doctor Who”, Thirteenth Doctor writer Jody Houser said. “Anyone can have an adventure. No matter how old you are, there are still amazing things to discover in the universe. Exploring what makes our new Doctor tick, and what makes this regeneration unique as compared to the previous incarnations, is what I’m really looking forward to doing in the new series.”
Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor #1 arrives this fall, ahead of Doctor Who Comics Day on November 24. Check out 10 of the first issue variant covers, along with a first look at the covers for issue #2, in the gallery below.
