When the first metro-rail trains themed for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. appeared around San Diego last month emblazoned with a flaming chain, fans were quick to assume this heralded the possible arrival of the sinister supernatural avenger Ghost Rider, but no official word came until today. During the Marvel panel at SDCC 2016 earlier this afternoon, Robbie Reyes was announced to be bringing his sweet, souped-up, death-black Dodge Charger to the next season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Seen last year in his high-octane, fully armored muscle car racing in the Secret Wars spinoff Ghost Racers against other iterations of the hellbound spirit, Ghost Rider adds a much-needed boost of fresh new blood to Season 4 after the Hive storyline has ended. How his character will be revealed or integrated into the main plot remains to be seen, but have no fear ... it'll be awesome. According to the panel presentation, Gabriel Luna (True Detective, Matador) “will roar into the lives” of Agent Coulson and the team as Robbie Reyes, the unstoppable Ghost Rider.
Marvel's AOS cast also took the tarp off Reyes' hellish supercharged hot rod as well, to further cement the notion of Ghost Rider's imminent arrival to the hit ABC show. What I wouldn't give to take that dark beauty for a spin!!
Here's what Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb had to say about this heated announcement:
“Season 4 will unquestionably be the series’ biggest, most ambitious story yet, and it all begins with the introduction of one of our greatest legacy characters in Ghost Rider… When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything.”
What do you think about Robbie Reyes' Spirit of Vengeance blasting onto the S.H.I.E.L.D. radar this fall?
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 returns Sept. 20, 2016, at 10:00 PM EST on ABC.
