Adding more spookiness to its roster of spectral entertainment, Syfy has captured Van Helsing and Continuum producer Simon Barry's latest paranormal project, Ghost Wars.
Created by Barry and his Nomadic Pictures shingle, Ghost Wars is described as a 13-episode, contemporary supernatural drama starring Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil), Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy, Resident Evil: Afterlife), Avan Jogia, Kristin Lehman and Meat Loaf chronicling a serious spook invasion in Alaska. Similar to their arrangement on Van Helsing, Ghost Wars will debut in America on Syfy and internationally on Netflix in late 2017. The spirited production began filming May 1 in Vancouver, BC.
Here's the official synopsis:
Set in a remote Alaskan town that has been overrun by paranormal forces, the series focuses on local outcast Roman Mercer (Jogia) who must overcome the town’s prejudices and his own personal demons if he’s to harness his repressed psychic powers and save everyone from the mass haunting that’s threatening to destroy them all.
Barry (Continuum, Van Helsing) will act as series showrunner, and the pilot is being directed by Hell on Wheel's' David Von Ancken.
“Ghost Wars is not just a contemporary homage to classic psychological horror, it’s also an opportunity to tell stories about human politics and how we shape our beliefs and lives based on our individual perspectives and biases,” Barry said in a press release. “Science, Humanism, Religion and the Paranormal all get a seat at the table. I’m grateful that Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev have assembled such a wealth of talent, both in front of and behind the camera, to hopefully elevate this genre series beyond expectations.”
