Will Fox Mulder and Dana Scully ever team up on the big screen again? The last X-Files flick cast doubt over the future of the franchise, but earlier this month David Duchovny said there's always a chance. Now it seems his former co-star Gillian Anderson also wants to believe.

During at a panel at the Toronto Fan Expo Sunday, Anderson was asked whether a third movie could happen. An X-Files fan group live-tweeting the event reported that this was her response:

"I met with [series creator Chris Carter] before coming here and it's looking pretty good."

That's definitely positive news. Not just hope, but actual discussion seems to be taking place. Anderson also noted, though, that to get the movie made Carter and company will "have to convince Fox."

Earlier this month Duchovny lamented the commercial failure of 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe, citing a lack of budgetary strength during the film's production and noting that it was a small film releasing during the summer and going head to head with things like The Dark Knight. But despite all that, he said he's definitely up for more.

"I would love to do another film, or more. I think we're all game for it. I know I'm kind of perplexed that Fox isn't more [enthusiastic]. Here's a homegrown property that you don't have to go buy, like #$@!-in' Green Lantern or something, to make it. Here you've got an actual action franchise that's your own. It's weird to me, but I'm not an executive. I don't know if they made the Green Lantern either, but I'm just using that as an example of, "Why make that film? Why not make a homegrown franchise that is excellent, and that has proven to be excellent and interesting?" I don't get it, but that's not my business."

So it seems that both the franchise's stars and the creator are on board to make a continuation of the X-Files saga happen. But will Fox be in their corner? The truth is out there ...
