More news from Pandora today as Deadline reports that Giovanni Ribisi is set to return for all four of James Cameron's Avatar sequels. The Saving Private Ryan and Ted actor will reprise his role as Parker Selfridge, the heartless corporate suit from the The Resources Development Administration who is forced to leave the Na'vi's home planet at the end of the first movie. He's the latest in a slew of cast announcements after Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet were both confirmed for the follow-ups.
This could be Ribisi's triumphant return to the big budget spotlight after smaller roles in both film and television over the last few years. One can only assume that Selfridge is returning to Pandora for that unobtanium and he'll be bringing a crap ton of reinforcements with him.
Principal photography began for the sequels at the end of September in Manhattan Beach, California with an alleged collective budget of over $1 billion, yet another money-centric record set by the franchise for "the most expensive shoot of its kind" in cinematic history.
Avatar 2 arrives on December 18, 2020 while the rest follow in December 2021, December 20, 2024, and December 2025.
