Glenn Close's refreshingly candid admission about Guardians role

From Robert Downey Jr. to Robert Redford, Marvel has managed to pull a fair share of acclaimed actors into its wild comic-book world. But the latest addition, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Glenn Close, has a surprisingly candid reason for doing the flick.

The Emmy and Golden Globe winner will play intergalactic police leader Nova Prime, which is an admittedly different role than her usual character-driven fare, which has earned her a pile of awards and even more nominations.

So why’d she decide to join up with Marvel’s big-budget space epic? Not surprisingly, it’s all about the money. Close prefers to do indie movies and smart TV, but she has to pay the bills, and that’s why she’ll be joining the Marvel universe soon and kicking ass in deep space.

She had this to say at the recent Nantucket Film Festival:

“I just did two independent films this summer and I had an absolute ball with fantastic actors, but in August, I’m gonna go off and do the next generation of Marvel Comics/Disney and I get to be the chief police of the galaxy… I’m doing that because it will then afford me to go do the other kind of movies that I really love, and hopefully I will have a great time [on Guardians of the Galaxy]. It’ll be a new experience for me, but practically speaking it will mean that I can do those smaller movies and it’ll be okay.”

Honestly, considering Close’s resume, it’s not much of a surprise that the Guardians role is little more than a paycheck. But at least she’s honest, and it sounds like she’s ready to have some fun with the role. We can’t wait to see how it turns out.
