A new behind-the-scenes featurette has been released from The Hobbit and offers up a ton of new looks at some of the epic sets and Middle-earth action—including a look at the epic Mirkwood forest.

The lengthy clip is a tour of Peter Jackson's super-secret Stone Street Studio—guided by Jackson himself—where he hauls a camcorder through all the studios and staging areas, including some quality peeks at the costume department and the massive Mirkwood forest set.

We also get a few fleeting peeks at some scenes being shot, though nothing too spoilery (Jackson is running the camera, after all).

Check out the video below:

The two-part Hobbit series is scheduled to open on Dec. 14, 2012, and Dec. 13, 2013. The films are a prequel to Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, all based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Sound off: You looking forward to finally going back to Middle-earth?
