The swords-and-sandals fantasy epic Gods of Egypt looks like ridiculousness to the nth degree, and a few new clips from the flick do not disappoint.
The film stars a mishmash of mildly familiar names, including Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Yung, Courtney Eaton and Geoffrey Rush. Despite the CGI-plosion of insanity, the project is directed by sci-fi veteran Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City), so that makes the whole thing even more interesting. As for the clips? If you dug the trailer, you should dig this.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
In this spectacular action-adventure, the survival of mankind hangs in the balance as an unexpected mortal hero Bek [Brenton Thwaites] undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful god Horus [Nikolaj Coster-Waldau] in an unlikely alliance against Set [Gerard Butler], the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the epic final confrontation.
Needless to say, this movie looks like it could be the guilty pleasure of the year, or a terrible mess of awfulness. Here’s hoping it's the former.
