The King of Monsters is on a massive rampage in this newest Godzilla: Resurgence trailer. The monster film is Toho’s first Godzilla movie since Godzilla: Final Wars in 2004, but the last time we saw the big guy was in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla.
Godzilla: Resurgence is co-directed by Hideaki Anno, who gave us Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Shinji Higuchi, who did the FX on the Gamera trilogy, from a screenplay by Anno.
Like the first trailer released a few months back, this one is also dialogue-free, which comes in very handy if you don’t speak a single word of Japanese. In a strange way, I think it makes the trailer even more suspensul as we watch Gojira wag his massive (and I mean MASSIVE) tail as he takes a little destructive stroll through a terrified Tokyo, all the while looking pretty angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. Check it out:
Gosh. I love that roar! And that little bit there at the end where it looks like the giant lizard is taking a bow. Here’s an official synopsis for the upcoming film:
“A cause unknown, an accident has occurred in the tunnels of the Tokyo Bay Aqua Line, causing an emergency cabinet meeting to convene. Immediately afterwards, a huge creature appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital. The mysterious giant organism named “Godzilla.”
Godzilla: resurgence – the 29th entry in TOHO’s franchise – stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi and Satomi Ishihara. It will roar to life in movie theaters in Japan on July 29, 2016.
