Middle schoolers beware, you're in for a scare. Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine has signed a "historic" new deal with BOOM! Studios, which will allow him to write four horror/supernatural-centric graphic novels under the publisher's KaBOOM! imprint; KaBOOM! focuses on creating titles that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, mainly younger readers.
The books will become available sometime in the fall of 2019.
“I'm so lucky to have been able to scare so many generations of kids,” said Stine in an official release provided to SYFY WIRE. “Now I feel lucky to be going just beyond Goosebumps to a whole new medium of fright and chilling laughs. I'm hoping that BOOM! is the sound of an explosion of fun in a whole new world for me."
In particular, the currently untitled graphic novels from Stine will be targeted toward kids between the ages of 8 and 12, often referred to as the "middle grade" demographic, the group that's just one step below "Young Adult."
What makes Stine's BOOM! deal so intriguing is the fact that this will be his first time bringing his own, original concepts to the medium of graphic novels. He's had some practice, having made his comic book debut last summer at Marvel when he wrote a limited Man-Thing series, which was illustrated by German Peralta and Daniel Warren Johnson.
“As a lifelong fan of R.L. Stine, I couldn’t be more excited to see him scare a whole new generation with a series of original horror graphic novels at BOOM! Studios,” said Bryce Carlson, VP of Editorial & Creative Strategy, in a statement. “His work changed my life as a reader and I can’t wait for today’s young readers to share that experience as R.L. Stine takes the graphic novel format and sends everyone just beyond the limits of their imaginations…”
