A new trailer teasing what’s to come later this season on Fox’s Gotham gives us an up-close look at the crazed killers out to destroy the city. It looks insane, but actually kind of fun.

The trailer focuses on a group of inmates dubbed “The Maniax” who escaped from Arkham Asylum, and finds this show finally embracing the utter absurdity of the DC universe and the Burton-esque story they’re trying to tell. Where the first season sometimes tried to play it safe early on, year two is throwing in everything and the kitchen sink to really capitalize on the pitch. This is Gotham City, and all hell is breaking loose. Enjoy it!

The trailer focuses a good bit on Cameron Monaghan’s Jerome, and they seem to be fully embracing the more Joker-y aspects of the character. Seriously, if this kid doesn’t end up being the Joker, it’ll be one of the most blatant bait and switch moves in TV history. The kid oozes creepiness, and it’s no surprise they’ve decided to make him a recurring baddie. We also get to see Gordon’s former lady love, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), embrace her inner nut job as a member of the Maniax. It’s also worth noting that she’s rocking some Harley Quinn-esque colors. Hey, just sayin’. Which, hey, at least Barbara has an arc this season. That’s progress!

This show is definitely an acquired taste, but if you dig the craziness, they're serving it up in spades this fall.
