Gotham Season 2 gets a gender-bent villain

Gotham takes place during Bruce Wayne’s formative years—as well as the formative years of several villains who Batman meets at a later date. Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, the Joker, the Riddler and Scarecrow have made their appearance in Season 1. But in Season 2, we’re going to encounter yet another criminal, Firefly.

Only this time, instead of a man, Firefly is a woman. She will be played by actress Michelle Veintimilla.

TVLine writes, “Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful super villain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her.”

This is different from the two different versions of Firefly that Batman fans know and dislike. The first Firefly, Garfield Lynns, was a special effects expert who appeared in 1952. The second Firefly, from 1959, was Ted Carson, an heir who turns to crime when he gambles away his fortune.

In Season 1, Jada Pinkett Smith chewed all sorts of scenery as Fish Mooney, crime lord on an upward, then downward, trajectory.  But now that Smith is absent from the series, there’s a lack of estrogen in Gotham's cavalcade of villainy. I’m excited by the prospect of another new female supervillain.  However, Firefly only appears in Episodes 5 and 6.

For now.
