Today the network dropped the first real trailer for the upcoming batch of episodes, which will feature Shane West's take on classic Batman villain Bane. Thankfully, the 40-second preview offers us not one, but two looks at the character. There's also Scarecrow (David W. Thompson), Jeremiah (Cameron Monaghan), Jeremiah's girlfriend (Harley Quinn?), Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), and an ass-kicking Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz).
With so many villains descending upon the city, Bruce has some words of comfort: "The world may seem dark, but there's hope."

There's plenty of chaos in the teaser, aptly titled "This Is The End." The deep scars left on Gotham City by the events of the final season will perfectly set the stage for the arrival of Batman. In fact, it's been confirmed that the series finale is set to jump 10 years into the future, just so we can see the Caped Crusader.
The first episode of Season 5 is titled "Year Zero," which may very well be an homage to Frank Miller's Batman: Year One comic storyline from 1987, which explored Bruce Wayne's first year as a vigilante. The episode was directed by Danny Cannon, who has helmed 11 episodes of the series, including the 2014 pilot.
Season 5 of Gotham debuts on Fox Thursday, January 3.
