Who would Bruce Wayne be without Alfred Pennyworth and vice versa? No matter the type of Batman story being told, these two characters are normally always bound together in the adventure and essential to each other’s journeys. Perhaps no one knows this better than the actors that play the iconic duo and work together so closely, including Gotham’s David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne) and Sean Pertwee (Alfred Pennyworth).
The two actors wrote about their experiences this week after filming their last scene together for the show’s fifth and final season. Mazouz shared a photo with Pertwee on Instagram during their last day. His caption was a tribute to working with the fellow actor, stating that Pertwee “always knows what I’m thinking and feeling, always making sure I’m ok, which I think is a testament to how close our relationship has been over the last third of my life. And over those five years, I’ve learned what it means to be a gentleman, professional, and unabashedly talented from this man.” You can read the full comment on the post below.
Pertwee also posted a photo after they filmed their last scene, writing that “for five years I have pretended to be this mans mentor. Secretly I stand in awe of his kindness, intellect, & talent. Thank you for your humility & letting me be a part of your life.”
It’s touching to see how much the last five years of working together on Gotham have meant to these two as the time draws nearer for fans to start the final journey of the series. The fifth season is scheduled to premiere January 3, 2019.
