Early in its freshman run, Fox renewed Gotham for a second season. The show has spent a considerable amount of time introducing multiple villains, with some taken directly from the Batman canon while others were created from scratch. Fish Mooney is a character who was made specifically for Gotham, and her journey has been filled with ups and downs.
But despite Fish's resilience, she may be living on borrowed time. In an appearance on Live With Kelly & Michael, the actor behind the character, Jada Pinkett Smith, didn't seem hopeful about Fish's future. When asked about her return for next season, the actress said, “I don’t think so, I signed for a year and the year’s up.”
Co-host Michael Strahan replied, “I’m holding out hope because, you never know, Fish Mooney could show up anywhere." Pinkett Smith agreed, “Yeah, she could show up anywhere. You never know!” After that somber moment, the actress stressed that the first season isn't over, and there are still “great things” to come.
Fish Mooney has probably been the show's most polarizing figure. Pinkett Smith plays her in a way that's very theatrical and larger than life. But then again, should we expect anything less? This is a woman who gouged her own eye out to prove a point. As a whole, Gotham has greatly improved with the second part of the season. But it may be suffering from villain overload.
What do you think? Should Fish stay, or should she go?
