Imagine if Midnight in Paris was an anime movie that then took a large dose of LSD — that's probably the easiest way to describe Masaaki Yuasa's upcoming animated film from Japan, The Night is Short, Walk On Girl.
Based on Tomihiko Morimi's novel of the same name, the movie follows "The Girl with Black Hair," as her night on the town turns into a series of surreal encounters. Hot on her trail is Senpai, a fellow student with a massive crush on her, "who has been creating increasingly fantastic and contrived reasons to run into her, in an effort to win her heart."
While technically a romantic comedy, it looks like the movie will transcend all genre conventions with some truly wacky scenarios, dynamic voice work, and eye-popping animation.

Yuasa already has a pretty impressive track record when it comes to genre-related anime. Over the course of his career, he's worked on projects like Vampiyan Kids, Kemonozume, Lu Over the Wall, and Adventure Time. His most recent enterprise was directing Devilman Crybaby for Netflix.
