Grand Admiral Thrawn is about to become a major thorn in the Ghost crew’s side this fall, and a new clip from the third season of Star Wars Rebels shows the legendary baddie in action.

Entertainment Weekly has debuted a new clip from the Disney XD series, which returns this weekend. The scene in question comes from the third episode of the season, “Hera’s Heroes,” that finds the Rebel pilot under the scrutiny of Thrawn after a covert mission goes sideways. We also get a fresh look at the older Ezra, who is undercover in stormtrooper garb. Thrawn is tasked with crushing whatever is left of the rebellion, and he sees Hera as a way to learn more about the population he’s subjugating … but does he also suspect she’s really a spy?

In regards to Thrawn, Rebels producer Dave Filoni implied he’s basically a Bond villain in a Star Wars setting (sophisticated, sneaky, evil), which only gets us more excited to see what they do with him:

“He really stuck out because he was through and through an Imperial officer. He was not facing doubt, he didn’t have these abilities that make all the big arch villains up to that point arch. He wasn’t inept so much like Piett, he wasn’t playing politics like the rest of the Imperial officers, he was purely a military strategist. His love of art, his study of that was something that really stuck with me. That’s really smart because he is getting to the root and tendencies of people, and I never heard of anybody attacking it that way. He stars to remind you of people like Patton, very into history and poetry.”

Star Wars Rebels returns to Disney XD on September 24.
