Grand Admiral Thrawn made a glorious return to canon in Star Wars Rebels Season 3 [Jabba the Pod 3.7]

By Brian Silliman & Caitlin Busch
Star Wars Rebels - Grand Admiral Thrawn

It was a true thing of beauty when Star Wars Rebels rescued Grand Admiral Thrawn from the annals of Star Wars history in Season 3. The Chiss genius, who appeared in Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire (and its sequels) had been an EU favorite of many fans. Suddenly, there he was on everyone's television screens.

Of all of the EU favorites that Dave Filoni has "recanonized" over the years, this might be one of the most surprising. It was great for fans and it was great for the series, but it was not great for the Rebels. Thrawn is a master tactician, and he's not to be trifled with.

Thankfully, Phantom Squadron had some help added to their ranks to counter Thrawn — the Bendu, a giant force moose thing that exists between the light and the dark, would give spiritual assistance. He'd give it in the voice of Doctor Who legend Tom Baker, and wow, does that make a difference.

Our heroes over on Jabba the Pod (Brian, Caitlin, and Matt) discuss it all in this week's episode, covering the first half of Rebels Season 3. From "Steps into Shadow" up and through "Visions and Voices" no solar sail is left unfurled. Besides all of this, there's another betrayal from inside their own ranks! From Matt, it's always Matt. He just up and decides to add a segment to the segment he already has. He's the one complaining about episode length, but whoa, if you don't watch his videos, he'll just add a whole section to the show about grievances, complete with jokes stolen directly from SYFY WIRE's Jackie Jennings.

There's also some talk about Count Dooku's pencil? Honestly, don't listen to this. Run away, run far, far away. Never look back. Once a secret is known, it cannot be unknown. If you truly want to know, then listen below, or wherever you get your podcasts. We're gonna get a Twix and forget this ever happened.
