After an unauthorized photo of Barry Allen’s new costume for CW’s The Flash leaked online — much to star Grant Gustin’s dismay — the actor has unveiled the first official look for the new costume fans will see in Season 5.
“First OFFICIAL look at Barry’s new threads for season 5,” Gustin, who plays the eponymous superhero for the series, wrote on Instagram next to a picture of him in the role with a slightly jazzed-up version of the costume (sans chinstrap and featuring far more spandex than leather).
We’re guessing Gustin emphasized the word “official” in response to the unofficial photo being posted online days before, resulting in some criticizing the actor for looking “too thin.” This, in return, led Gustin to slam not only the leaked photo (it’s “a terrible photo that I was unaware was being taken”) but also critics for body-shaming him online (“As far as the body shaming. That's what pisses me off. … there's a double standard where it's ok to talk s**t about a dudes body”).
So, gang. Now that the official image of Gustin in the new costume is out, what do you think? At least by the action shot, it certainly looks more comic accurate than the leathery versions we've seen up to this point on the show. Let us know in the comments below.
The fifth season of The Flash premieres Oct. 9 on The CW.
