Green Lantern filmmakers are already talking TRILOGY

It might have just been the alcohol talking, but an unnamed production staffer was overheard bragging in a bar in New Orleans, where Green Lantern is currently filming, and what he had to say could mean we'll be seeing a lot more of the emerald warrior on the big screen over the next three years.

According to the reliable Rich Johnston of bleedingcool, this staffer let drop that Warner Brothers plans to begin shooting on Green Lantern 2 before the first movie is even released AND that if the first film does the kind of box-office business we're all expecting, the studio will green-light a THIRD Green Lantern movie to be shot back to back with the second.

The first Green Lantern is due to hit theaters June 17, 2011, the second (supposedly) would have either a summer or Christmas 2012 release, and the third would be released in 2013.

Keep in mind that the person who let this drop might just have been blowing smoke to impress someone with insider knowledge that might or might not be true ... but we're kind of hoping it IS true.

Yeah, we know. We haven't even seen the FIRST Green Lantern yet, so we can't judge whether the filmmakers will live up to the superhero's promise. But what do you think? Is the character worthy of a trilogy?
