There’s some good news and potentially better news. Not only is a Booster Gold movie still in the works at Warner Bros., but it also seems that it’s not going to be banished outside of the DC Extended Universe, as previously thought.

Writer/director/Arrowverse-mastermind Greg Berlanti has given an update on the project, speaking to The Wrap about where it sits now, and where it fits onto the DCEU slate. “It’s still in development with DC,” said Berlanti. “They’re trying to figure out both the distance that we still have to travel and how we want to execute it.”

Berlanti had hinted before that the project would be separate from other recent DCEU movies, telling Vulture: “As of right now we have no connective tissue to those worlds. It'd be a separate thing.” But that may have changed, with Berlanti suggesting to The Wrap that DC Films are working out where it will be placed into their “greater landscape.” He explains: “That’s really on them, they’re still kind of determining their order of business on that end.”

Created by Dan Jurgens in 1986's Booster Gold #1, he's one of DC’s more unorthodox heroes. Booster -- civilian name Michael Jon Carter -- doesn’t have any of his own superpowers to speak of. Instead, he gets his strength from some special tech that he stole from a museum in the far future, including a power suit that grants him super strength and wrist blasters that project force blasts.

At this stage in the complicated game of improving the DCEU films, we’d say adding Booster to the mix could definitely help to shake things up a bit. His quirky backstory could add some much-needed color and humor into any future Justice League movie (he's been an off-and-on member), that's for sure, though we’re not holding our breath just yet.

While there’s no sign of a plot outline for the Booster standalone film, Bertlanti says they have a draft with a writer that he “liked very much.” Presumably that'd be Thor screenwriter Zack Stentz, as was previously revealed.

It’s a shame we can’t travel into the future, Booster-style, to find out more.
