Talk about a movie that's been a long time coming. Gremlins director Joe Dante's latest horror flick The Hole was supposed to hit theaters all the way back in 2010. Two years later, it's finally coming, and we have a creepy new trailer to prove it.

The Hole follows a group of fresh-faced teenagers who discover a hole in their basement that goes to ... hell, or the center of the earth. Or something. Regardless, it's pretty creepy. This one definitely feels like a nice throwback to the days of cool '80s horror flicks a la Gremlins.

The film opened at festivals all the way back in 2009, but it couldn't secure a U.S. distribution deal until now. It will finally open Sept. 28.

Here's the official synopsis:

After moving in a new neighborhood, brothers Dane (Chris Massoglia) and Lucas (Nathan Gamble) and their neighbor Julie (Haley Bennett) discover a bottomless hole in the basement of their home. They find that once the hole is exposed, evil is unleashed. With strange shadows lurking around every corner and nightmares coming to life, they are forced to come face to face with their darkest fears to put an end to the mystery of THE HOLE.
