Women's History Month is a sacred time here at SYFY FANGRRLS. This year, we've got a brand-new series to bring to the table: GRRLTalk. We sit down with some favorite ladies to learn all about their relationship to fandom.
Today, let's get to know Breezy Weekes!
Name: Breezy Weekes, actress/influencer
What are you currently FANGRRLing over?
Why do you love it?
I think because it's reminiscent of my childhood growing up in the '80s and my love for '80s sci-fi and horror flicks. Not to mention it's a kickass show.
What was your first fandom?
As a little girl I was obsessed with Superman, E.T., and Gizmo from Gremlins.
When you were a kid, what was your most prized geek possession? Do you still have it?
My 14" tall plastic Chewbacca figure. Not the same one, but my husband found a replica for me.
Who was most instrumental in getting you into geek culture?
My husband Dallon.
What are you geek-curious about?
Do you collect nerdy stuff? If so, what?
Oh my gosh yes! I collect things from Doctor Who and the TARDIS, Funko POP!s, and LEGO minifigures.
Do you cosplay? Follow up: If yes, what's your favorite that you've ever done?
Yes! Last Halloween I was Robin and my husband was Steve Harrington from Stranger Things Season 3. That was a lot of fun! We also decorated the whole exterior of our house with a Stranger Things theme.
What's something geeky that you will always spend money on?
Doctor Who for sure! Something about that blue TARDIS I'm drawn to.
If you could do a TED Talk on anything fandom-related, what would it be and why?
This might be an unpopular opinion, but Kylo Ren and Rey's kiss. There's so much controversy behind it. You have fans who absolutely hated it and then fans like me who just needed some geek romance thrown in there.
What's one moment in nerd history you'll never get over?
Tony Stark aka Iron Man dying. I still don't want to believe it.
If a studio came to you and said they would adapt anything you wanted, what would it be and why?
A cartoon/comic that my husband Dallon Weekes and I have created. My husband even came up with the song intro, and since we are connected to the music industry, we would love to have music incorporated with it and maybe bring on some fellow musician friends to have songs featured on it.
We've been wanting to make it into something for years — just need it in front of the right people. Years ago we pitched a rough draft of it to Cartoon Network and they almost picked it up, but they chose to develop another project instead. So if anyone out there can help us we would love to develop it someday!
