Marvel has been known to drop more than a few easter eggs into its movies, and keen-eyed fans noted a very weird one in the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy. So what’s the deal?

Director James Gunn has taken to Facebook to explain the bizarre “Sex Crime” noted on Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) virtual rap sheet that pops up when they introduce each character. It’s obviously a pretty bizarre entry, though Gunn notes the explanation isn’t quite as lascivious as it may seem.

Here’s the full explanation:

“I'm getting a lot of questions about Peter Quill's "sex crime" as listed on his rap sheet in the trailer - "illegal manipulation of a Gramosian Duchess." Just to explain, Quill was seduced by the Duchess and, as anyone who has been to Gramos knows, it's illegal for regular folk to be intimate with royalty there. So there you go.”

So, there you have it. The “Sex Crime” apparently points to a very kinky piece of Quill’s backstory. If nothing else, this tidbit just goes to show this is definitely not your usual Marvel film. It’s risky and weird, and this is just one tiny block in that deep-space world-building effort.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens Aug. 1, 2014.
