Marvel announced earlier today that filming on director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has now officially begun, and we’ve got the first teaser image of our Guardians assembled again for their second outing, an official confirmation that Kurt Russell has joined the cast of the Marvel superhero movie, and our very first synopsis!

First things first: Let’s start with that awesome teaser image. Back in action and poised to save the galaxy again are Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), PeterQuill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana). Notice we still have Baby Groot!

Also returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Glenn Close as Nova Prime. The new cast members include Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell. Gunn himself confirmed the casting on his Facebook page. Russell's role is still being kept under wraps, but my money is on him being Star-Lord’s dad.

Here’s the first official synopsis:

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage.

No official mention of the movie's villain yet. As for Peter Quill's parentage, we’ve been hearing for a while that the identity of his father would play an integral part of the Guardians sequel, it now looks like finding out who Star-Lord’s dad is will be one of the driving forces of the movie. What do you think?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to open in movie theaters on May 5, 2017.
