Smashing through the record books like the Milano at full afterburner, James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has risen to the top of the all-time Marvel digital download charts by eclipsing the previous first week sales winner's high-water mark.

To no one's real surprise, Guardians 2 has now become the most accessed movie in the entire Marvel Studios catalog after being released digitally on Aug. 8 via Digital HD streaming outlets Vudu, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Microsoft, FandangoNOW, and Disney’s deluxe digital service, Disney Movies Anywhere. Up next, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soars onto home video for 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on Aug. 22.

Gunn shared his enthusiasms with this Twitter message:

While precise numbers are not made available, this demonstrates the incredible staying power of the space opera sequel, with continued interest in the Guardians gang as they enter Avengers: Infinity War next year.

Released May 5 and written by James Gunn, it offered early summer movie fans a stupendous star-bound odyssey across the universe, while amassing a worldwide box-office total of $862 million.

Are you still enthralled with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and will you spring for a fresh digital drop or home video physical copy to keep for yourself?
