As if the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel couldn't possibly stuff more awesome into its cinematic mothership, director James Gunn has confirmed the casting of Sylvester Stallone and Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum.

Though whispers of Stallone's inclusion have been known for a while, Gunn acknowledged the actor's significant role and also revealed the news regarding his buddy Rosenbaum on The Adam Corolla Show.

And according to the tone and word choice of the director, it doesn't sound like these parts will be quick cameos but are actual comic book characters born from the hallowed pages of the Marvel Universe.

"We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which people don't know about," he told Corolla. "Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters ... my friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent role in the movie as well and it sort of works in tandem with Sly's character."

Hmm, working in tandem seems to be an operating clue but that could mean nearly anything and that's the trigger to start the Interweb aflutter with reckless speculation. Who might these mystery men be and how do they figure into the overall story? Best odds point to either the pair being members of the Nova Corps or the Ravagers. But what about Adam Warlock and the High Evolutionary?

Give us your best guess and then revel in the glory once the truth is revealed if you're right!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens May 5.
