At least one familiar face will be showing up on the new animated series Star Wars: Rebels...and maybe more.
JediNews reports that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be a character on the new show, after spying an action figure clearly branded "Rebels Obi-Wan Kenobi" at a sneak preview event for the latest line of Hasbro toys. Obi-Wan, one of the last of the Jedi Knights, mentor to both Anakin and Luke Skywalker, was played by Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor in the first six live-action films and voiced by James Arnold Taylor on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. There's no word on whether Taylor will play the role on the new series.
It was always assumed -- and more or less sketched out in the movies -- that Obi-Wan disappeared into the deserts of Tatooine after the Jedis were defeated by Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, where he kept a secretive eye on a growing Luke Skywalker in the intervening years. But depending on how large a role he has on Rebels, it may turn out that "Old Ben" was not quite as hermit-like as originally thought.
And he may not be the only beloved character from the canon who's returning. Rebels might also feature a certain scoundrel turned cloud city administrator. Check out this Facebook post from Star Wars Insider's Facebook page:
Star Wars Insider, as Slashfilm points out, is the official Lucasfilm magazine for all things Star Wars. But the trailer they mention for Rebels doesn't even hint at the return of Lando Calrissian. Where did the comment about Lando come from? Were they privy to an inside scoop or did they make a mistake?
So, Obi-Wan is coming back and there's even the possibility of Lando showing up as well (which is good, because so far they have not made room for him in Star Wars Episode VII). Does this make you more intrigued to check out Star Wars: Rebels?
