Marvel has just debuted new concept art for Captain America: The Winter Soldier ... and it's star-spangled awesome.
The new smashing and fiery concept art by Ryan Meinerding (this guy’s art is always freakin’ awesome, just sayin’) features a showdown between former best pals turned foes Steve Rogers as Captain America (Chris Evans) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) as the Winter Soldier.
Wanna guess who's swooping in to help?
Right there in the upper left corner is the Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie), swooping in, all guns blazing, to lend a helping hand to our good ol’ Cap.
The last time we saw Bucky, he was plummeting from a speeding train to his (seemingly) frozen death during World War II. In the comics, Bucky is later found and revived and bio-engineered (with a new bionic arm) to be an assassin for Mother Russia. A bit like Cap was, except for the whole brain-washing thingie.
The story picks up just after the events of The Avengers, where Steve Rogers believes himself to be alone in the world, with all his friends gone ... how wrong can one be?
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier also stars Scarlett Johansson back as the ass-kicking Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Robert Redford as S.H.I.E.L.D. consultant Alexander Pierce, Frank Grillo as the mercenary Crossbones, Emily VanCamp as “Agent 13,” Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Maximiliano Hernández as Agent Jasper Sitwell.
Hayley Atwell is also back as Cap’s former love interest Peggy Carter in a flashback capacity, and so is Dominic Cooper, who's also back as Howard (Tony's dad) Stark.
The upcoming Marvel summer tentpole flick will open on April 4, 2014.
