Guggenheim: Deathstroke 'tied up' in other DC project, Arrow return unlikely

Manu Bennett’s rendition of Deathstroke is one of the most iconic things about the early run of The CW’s Arrow, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be coming back anytime soon. Thanks, synergy.

When recently asked by a fan on social media if we might see Bennett’s Deathstroke or Colin Salmon’s Walter Steele return in the next season or two, Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that Slade Wilson is apparently “tied up” in another DC project, meaning they apparently can’t pull him back into the fold quite that easily.

Here’s the full (brief) comment:

"The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project. Walter is more likely.”

Considering we’ve already seen the Arrow version of Deadshot axed, the show’s spin on the Suicide Squad phased out and the small-screen Amanda Waller executed — it seems obvious Warner Bros. is trying to avoid brand confusion ahead of the big-screen Suicide Squad flick later this year. So, with Deathstroke off the table, it seems the studio is obviously cooking up something new for Slade Wilson. It’d stand to reason it’s a film project, too, since it apparently trumps the successful Arrow-verse.

Could it be a solo film, or a role as a villain in an upcoming DC flick? Who knows? But, whatever it is, it’s apparently more important than keeping the character around on television. We won’t even point out how this is directly opposed to Zack Snyder’s recent comments praising the multiverse (sigh), but whatever.

Are you bummed to hear Deathstroke apparently won’t be back?
