Fox Searchlight has dropped the first other-worldly trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s new creature movie, The Shape of Water.

Directed by del Toro from a script he co-wrote with Vanessa Taylor (Game of Thrones, Divergent), The Shape of Water boasts an excellent cast that includes Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine, Happy-Go-Lucky), Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Midnight Special), Richard Jenkins (The Visitor, Olive Kitteridge), Doug Jones (Hellboy, Star Trek: Discovery), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man, Steve Jobs) and Octavia Spencer (The Help, Gifted).

The Shape of Water is described as an “other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.”

I have to admit, this trailer has managed to ramp up my level of excitement for del Toro’s latest movie project. It certainly looks like a fairy tale about to go very, very wrong. Well, like all fairy tales, I guess. Plus, you know, it stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon and Doug Jones (did you guys spot Stargate Atlantis' David Hewlett in the trailer, too?), so it looks to feature an eclectic, but talented, cast.

The Shape of Water opens in movie theaters on Dec. 8.
