Guy Pearce (Iron Man 3, Memento) is in talks to replace Michael Sheen in Sony's live-action adaptation of Valiant's Bloodshot, Variety has revealed.

Sheen had signed on to play Dr. Emil Harting, the scientist responsible for the nanotechnology keeping Bloodshot alive. However, scheduling conflicts have forced Sheen to leave the project.

Since the film is currently in production, Sony is looking to find a replacement fast. If cast, Pearce would take on the role of Dr. Harting, who’s responsible for the technology that not just repairs the human body but enhances it beyond its normal limitations.

Created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton in 1992, Bloodshot is about Raymond Garrison, a soldier who takes part in a government super-soldier experiment known as Project Rising Spirit, which injects a host of nanites into his blood, giving him enhanced stamina and healing abilities and turning him into the eponymous super-soldier.

Vin Diesel is attached to play Bloodshot, along with Lamorne Morris, Eiza Gonzalez, Sam Heughan, Talulah Riley, Alex Hernandez, and Toby Kebbell.

Bloodshot is set to hit theatres on February 21, 2020.
