Master Chief, this isn’t. While some fans were hoping that the next iteration of the Halo franchise from Microsoft would be a rip-roaring new adventure with everyone’s favorite Spartan in the main timeline (aka Halo 6), the company’s recent reveal is in a direction that’s not quite opposite but definitely tangential.
Take a look:
It’s an arcade game titled Halo: Fireteam Raven, which will let four players man its mounted guns and accompany its Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) on a rail shooter against the Covenant. According to the trailer, which you can see below, Halo: Fireteam Raven will make its arcade debut at Dave & Busters this summer:
Yep, there’re definitely some Elites and Grunts, with at least one of the former wielding the series’ iconic energy sword. There’re Warthogs, Banshees, and tons of other vehicles flying across the screen as the four soldiers try desperately to cull the alien forces. Basically, just Halo, but on a massive 130-inch 4K screen.
The shooter will be, as one journalist calls it, like if Halo was a pop star getting a residency in Vegas. It’s a victory lap for Halo that doesn’t really push the franchise forward - but it’ll still be a must-play for fans that happen upon it.
