Next year, we'll all be able to carry our obsession with Harry Potter out into the Muggle world like never before.
It's been 20 years since J.K. Rowling first introduced her beloved boy wizard to us, and since then it feels like the Harry Potter franchise has grown to fill virtually every nook and cranny of fandom that it possibly can. We've got books, of course, and movies, and theme parks, and merchandise, and video games, and so much more. Now the games segment of the Potter empire is branching out into augmented reality, and if you're a Wizard World fan you're definitely going to want a piece of it.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is a new mobile game produced by WB Games and Niantic, the company responsible for your obsession with Pokémon GO. The game relies on the premise that small traces of magic have begun to leak out into the Muggle world. It could be an out-of-control spell, or a magical creature (much as in the Fantastic Beasts film spinoff franchise) on the loose, or even something like a golden snitch, as in the teaser below.
Whatever the case, these little bits of magical ephemera are out there, and if they keep appearing at this rate the Muggles are going to start to notice something's up. To combat this, the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards have formed a special task force to contain these magical traces, and you're about to join it. Check out the teaser above.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite won't release until next year, so unfortunately we don't have much more than this teaser footage to dig into just yet. If you can't wait for more information, though, you can head over to the game's official website and sign up for updates, so as soon as it's available to download you'll have your wand ready to go.
