Though it's been a while since a proper version lit up the box office, Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic tale Tarzan is still a major property. David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movies, seems to agree—and has signed on to direct a big-budget reboot of the famed jungle man. So who's on the short list to star?

Quite a few big names, and hopefully with Yates attached to the project, they'll be able to land one. Yates has made some solid Potter films over the years, and that style should translate pretty well into this franchise.

According to Vulture, Yates has Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) on his short list.

Any one of those guys could fit the part physically, and it seems like Warner Bros. is aiming for that big-name-genre-actor sweet spot to help carry this one to success.

The film has been in the pipe for a few years, and after the big-budget John Carter bombed at the box office, we're glad to see that Hollwood hasn't been completely scared away from Burroughs' catalog of great fantasy and sci-fi.

What do you think of the casting picks? Any of these options look good?
