Well, that elastic blond beefcake from '70s toy heaven is one tug closer to film reality with the addition of The Crazies director Breck Eisner. With all the development push/pull, the poor guy's developed serious stretch marks. Let's hope he has time to heal.
Relativity Media has pumped the fantasy project with some creative steroids, praying to get it into spring shape by 2014. The process dates way back to 2009, when Universal chatted up the idea of a big-screen Stretch Armstrong comedy. Hunky New Moon star Taylor Lautner was once linked to the cast for a 3D version of the rubbery he-man you just HAD to slice open to see its secret goop inside (corn syrup gel).
Eisner, who also captained 2005's Sahara, is a solid, if not inspired choice, but hey ... it's a family film about a squishy superhero. What could possibly go wrong?
In April, Dean Georgaris (Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life) was hired to write a story treatment, but recently Greg Poirier of National Treasure: Book of Secrets has been mentioned as the latest gun to give the Stretch script a go.
A soft release date of April 11, 2014, has been set ... but not in stone.
Excited to see the classic Kenner toy on screen, or has all the allure gone limp?
